Country of Origin: Originates from Sri Lanka. Extracted through steam distillation of leaves.
Description: Cinnamon is a tree in which the essential oil is extracted from its twigs and leaves. Cinnamon trees are famous for their spice. The essential oil of cinnamon does not come from the aromatic, dried inner bark of the tree like most expect (it is simply too strong to use for aromatherapy purposes). In fact, the oil is extracted from its leaves. The oil has a tendency to become darker once exposed to the oxygen in the air. It originates from Sri Lanka, India, and Madagascar. Cinnamon is also used in Egypt. Egyptians used cinnamon in their embalming procedures. It is one of the most common spices in the Old Testament. During the 15th and 16th centuries cinnamon was one of the most prized spices, it was even more valuable than gold today.
