  • Earaches can be debilitating, and they aren’t just a problem for children—adults get earaches, too. Usually, adult earaches may accompany a cold or they may be a symptom of an inner ear infection.
  • You might experience a dull, sharp, or burning pain with an earache from a cold, but it usually goes away on its own. Sometimes, a secondary infection may occur, with symptoms such as poor sleep, fever, drainage from ear, and vertigo. See your doctor if you feel your earache needs treatment.
  • Children are prone to develop ear infections because the eustachian tubes are shorter and more horizontal than those of adults, which let bacteria and viruses into the middle ear more easily. Seek medical attention for children 5 years of age and younger who have earaches.
  • DIY earache relief essential oil blend can also help relieve acute earaches.* For children over five years old, this recipe needs to be used at a 3 – 5% dilution. If you use the recipe as is, it’s at a 10% dilution, stronger than most blends because of how painful earaches can be.

Never drip directly into the ear canal!
