Essential oils for mood swings can be used any time we’re feeling irritable, edgy, or snappy. The person on the other end of our moodiness is usually innocent and doesn’t deserve our attacks but, from our end, there’s always justification.
Mood swings are varied, and can show up on one end of the continuum as minor daily mood changes — to the other end of the spectrum as significant mood changes as seen with mood disorders such as major depression or bipolar disorder.
Essential oils for mood swings can be a support tool to use along with other lifestyle and behavior changes that help lessen the moodiness roller coaster.
Some common causes of mood swings are stress/anxiety; depression; bipolar disorder; lack of sleep; drugs and alcohol; caffeine and sugar; premenstrual syndrome (PMS); and menopause/perimenopause.
It’s important to recognize, first, what is causing your stress (stressor); and then, to determine where that stressor is, on a continuum from minor stress to significant stress. For example, minor daily stressors (such as feeling overwhelmed due to a work project) can usually be managed with a few conscientious lifestyle changes such as getting enough sleep and eating healthy.
However, on the other end of the spectrum are mood disorders such as depression and, for this, as well as any stressor that interferes with your normal daily activities, it’s important to seek professional help, as significant stressors are something you shouldn’t deal with on your own.
It’s also important to note that whether you consider your stressor minor, major, or somewhere in between, is entirely based on your own perspective. A stressor that is minor to one person may be very debilitating to another, as we all possess different levels of coping skills when it comes to stress.
Essential oils for mood swings are just one tool to employ when struggling with mood issues, wherever your issue is on the continuum.* Just remember to seek outside help if you feel your stress is interfering with your normal daily activities.
