Essential oils for ADHD are becoming an increasingly popular choice used in combination with other solutions as a way to treat the incidence of this mental, emotional, and physical disorder.
ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) seems to be an acronym used by many parents today to describe their children’s behavioral “challenges.” This diagnosis, which appears to have reached epidemic proportions, is used by today’s doctors to describe people – adults as well as children – that may have trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors (acting without thinking about what the result will be), or being overly active. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), though ADHD can’t be cured, it can be successfully managed and some symptoms may improve as the child ages.
I personally know many adults, friends who I believe are highly intelligent, who often blame ADHD (a diagnosis made by a psychologist, medical doctor, or other healthcare professional) for their inability to focus and their forgetfulness, to name a few “telltale” signs of the disorder.
Hmmm…I don’t know…I seem to have a few of the symptoms, so does that mean I, too, have ADHD? For me, the jury is still out. I’m grateful my children didn’t exhibit any signs or symptoms of ADHD, so I truly can’t say I know what it’s like to have a child with this disorder.
I’ve read quite a bit about ADHD, however, that points to several different possible causes, or perhaps a combination of the following: Genes; environmental (i.e. exposure to smoke and lead); brain injuries; sugar; and food additives.
So, even though the jury is still out regarding the causes of what is referred to as ADHD, the fact remains that many children and adults have mental and behavioral challenges that adversely affect accomplishing the tasks of everyday living. These challenges might be helped with the use of essential oils for ADHD.*
It’s also a fact that more people today are looking to ease, if not alleviate, the symptoms they or their children experience every day at work, school, and play – using more natural means, such as essential oils for ADHD, rather than prescription medications.
Certain naturally occurring chemicals contained within essential oils for ADHD stimulate parts of the body that are not functioning properly, restoring the body to its natural state. Aromatherapy treatments tend to differ for each individual, so consulting with an aromatherapist will most likely get you the best results in the shortest timeframe.
I can’t finish this blog without emphasizing the importance of diet. Eliminating gluten, sugar, and processed foods (that contain lots of artificial preservatives and chemicals) will most definitely go a long way toward reducing the symptoms of ADHD.
And incorporating a supplement containing Omega-3 fats is essential. Omega-3’s are found in several different types of fish such as salmon and tuna. However, because these fish are often contaminated with mercury or other harmful chemicals – and your goal is for the ADHD individual to eat as pure and chemical-free as possible – I believe taking a good supplement every day is best. Eating avocados and walnuts are also a good way to add Omeag-3 fats into your diet.
Yes, it’s difficult to suddenly tell your child that you’re not allowing him or her to drink soda pop, eat breads and cereals, and most snack foods that have become familiar staples in their diets. However, think of the long-term benefits – the gift – you’ll be giving your child by imposing some new diet restrictions. You don’t have to do it all at once. Rather, try changing their diet in stages and replacing the bad stuff with some healthy alternatives.
Perhaps your entire family can make the change together – a healthy change that benefits EVERYONE!
