The winter blues are very common during the colder, darker days of winter.  We may not be getting as much fresh air and sunshine as we do during the rest of the year. As a result, many of us may feel exhausted, anxious and gloomy from time to time during the winter months.  If you are like us we tend to like to make new recipes during these cold winter days, so lets try a few different DIY Uplifting Body Sprays for Winter recipes and see if we can brighten our moods and spirits!*

In this blog article you will find five Uplifting Body Sprays for Winter recipes you can choose from to make your own uplifting body spray for winter. Why 190 Proof Grain Alcohol?

To start your Uplifting Body Sprays for Winter you will want to purchase 190 proof grain alcohol (such as Everclear).  A quick Google search will show you a place to find near you.  The alcohol serves two purposes in this body spray:  1.  It kills bacteria, which helps the body spray last longer, and  2.  it is a solvent that effectively blends essential oil with water.  It’s the alcohol that dilutes the essential oil in this body spray which brings it to skin-safe levels.  Here’s more on how this works:

• Fat-soluble things like essential oils don’t like to mix with water-soluble things like water. You know the old saying, “oil and water don’t mix.”
• The 190 proof grain alcohol (Everclear) acts as a solvent to help the essential oils blend well with the water. The alcohol dissolves the essential oils into the water so that the essential oils can be blended and diluted without separating.
• In order for this to work best, you will need to use a minimum of 25% alcohol to 75% water. We need the 1:3 ratio of alcohol to water in this body spray.
• That 1:3 (or higher) ratio of alcohol to water allows the alcohol, essential oils, and water to all become one blended substance.  When blended like this the essential oils and water will no longer separate.  They are now one cohesive blend of water and essential oils that cannot be separated back into their original parts.

If you don’t want to use Everclear, you may successfully substitute with perfumer’s alcohol or 91% isopropyl alcohol.

Now Let’s make your Uplifting Body Sprays for Winter:

You will  want to use distilled water or boiled and cooled filtered water which will prolong the shelf life of these Uplifting Body Sprays for Winter, plus the water dilutes the essential oils and gives the perfumes a lighter, everyday scent. 

• Pour 2 tablespoons of the 190 proof alcohol to a 4 oz spray bottle ( Using a funnel makes it really easy to add ingredients to a spray bottle).
• Add essential oils per the different scents below.
• Fill the bottle (just below the top) with distilled water.
• Cap and shake well.

Fruity Uplifting Body Spray for Winter

• 10 drops bergamot
• 10 drops sweet orange
• 7 drops peppermint

Woodsy Uplifting Body Spray for Winter

• 7 drops fir needle
• 12 drops sweet orange 
• 5 drops sandalwood
• 2 drops cinnamon

Warm Floral Uplifting Body Spray for Winter

•  7 drops frankincense
• 7 drops lemon 
• 4 drops lavender 
•  4 drops bergamot
• 4 drops cedarwood

Meditation Uplifting Body Spray for Winter

•  15 drops pink grapefruit
• 10 drops sandalwood
• 5 drops frankincense

Feels More Like Fall Uplifting Body Spray for Winter

• 8 drops sweet orange 
• 6 drops frankincense
• 6 drops cedarwood
• 2 drops ginger

Best Way to Use Your Uplifting Body Sprays for Winter*

•  Always shake well before each use.
• Spritz either directly on skin or spray into air then walk through body spray mist Caution: if using one of the recipes with bergamot, lemon, or grapefruit essential oils, do not apply to any skin that may be exposed to sun.  These essential oils can increase photosensitivity and you could get a sunburn, rash, or another reaction.  Only apply on skin that will not be exposed to sun.
