Petitgrain pure essential oil is derived from the leaves and twigs of the orange, lemon or tangerine tree. The citrus evergreen trees are native to Asia. The bitter orange tree reaches a height of about 3 metres when cultivated, but can attain up to about 6 metres when growing in the wild. It has stout branches with a smooth brown trunk. When compared to sweet orange tree it has a more erect stature and tighter crown of leaves. It has flexible twigs with blunt thorns. The leaves are glossy and highly aromatic.
