Background Information on Basil, Sweet Pure Essential Oil

Sweet basil is native to Africa and Asia. The bushy plant grows up to two feet. It has blue, white or purple flowers.  Basil wreaths have been found in Egyptian pyramid chambers. The herb Basil has been used medicinally all over the world for many conditions such as increasing lactation, stomach problems, menstrual cramp relief, snakebites.

Basil symbolizes love in Italy. Traditionally, when women are ready for romance, they put a pot of basil outside their window.

The wonders of basil have been appreciated and valued for over 2500 years. The word basil means “royal plant” in Greek. An exotic type of basil is grown and considered sacred in India.
