Background Information on Clove Bud Essential Oil

Clove bud oil is derived from the clove tree after the cloves have been harvested. This evergreen tree has a pungent smell and produces the cloves used in steam distillation. For over a millennium, cloves were chewed to extract the essential oils. It was mostly found in the East and West Indies, Philippines, and the Molucca Islands. In Persia, the people thought clove could even be used as a potion for love. The healers in India have used it for centuries on their patients.
